Major Brian D. Johns
East Patrol Operations Division
Major Brian D. Johns graduated from the Dayton Police Academy in 1992. He served as a patrol officer in both the Fifth and First Districts until 1998. During that time, Major Johns’ assignments included: Field Training Officer, Bicycle Unit, and an appointment to the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). In November of 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and had various assignments to include Fifth District and Vice Crimes Unit supervisor.
In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned as the West Night Watch Commander and Public Information Officer. In January of 2011, Major Johns was named the Commander of the Narcotics Bureau where worked until getting promoted to the rank of Major in June of 2012. Brian has been a member of the Dayton Police SWAT Team for thirteen years and presently serves as SWAT Commander.
Major Johns is a lifelong resident of the City of Dayton and grew up in the Old North Dayton neighborhood. Brian graduated from Chaminade-Julienne in 1987 and has an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Sinclair Community College.
