Assistant Chief Mark Hess

Assistant Police Chief HessLt. Col. Mark Hess, Assistant Chief of Police, oversees the SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team, as well as fiscal, budget and payroll operations of the department. One of Assistant Chief Hess' responsibilities is to ensure that Dayton Police personnel serve thecommunity efficiently and within the parameters of the department's written policies. 

Assistant Chief Hess has 27 years of experience with the Dayton Police Department. He is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and of the Police Executive Leadership College. Hess is also former Commander of Dayton’s Hostage Negotiation Team and has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University.
