What Can You Do About an Immediate Noise Problem

For an Immediate Noise Problem...

Call 333-2677 (COPS) (police non-emergency number) and ask to be contacted by the responding officer.
[*Note: If the noise stops prior to officer's arrival, call back and cancel the call. Ask the operator for the event number and note it for future reference. Your complaint will be documented in the computer and, since no action could be taken by the officers at that time, they will be able to respond to other calls in progress.]

The responding officer will provide a warning to the noise offender. Request the following information which is necessary for a report if the noise continues and further response is required:

   Officer's Name
   Officer's Identification Number
   Officer's Crew Number
   Date
   Time

If the noise continues after the initial police warning, call 333-2677 and again ask to be contacted by the responding officers. At this point, you must be willing to follow through with criminal charges. Your testimony as a witness will be required for court. When the officer arrives, provide him/her with the initial officer's information or the event history number. The officer will also need to listen to the noise from inside your residence or business, noting the intensity (e.g. pictures on the wall are shaking, the music is clearly understood, etc).

The officer has several options he/she can employ according to the circumstances. Be sure to get the police incident case number so you can follow up on the complaint if needed.
