The ORION Solution

The ORION Solution, short for Organizing Resources to Improve Our Neighborhoods, is an initiative created to address the undesirable circumstances that immediately affect the City's residents.  The goal of the ORION Solution is to work with neighborhood organizations and other community stakeholders in order to foster an increased amount of civic participation.  Another goal of the ORION Solution is to gather more information about the issues negatively affecting the quality of life in neighborhoods, and then to use that information to better direct City resources.

The ORION Solution is aimed at improving neighborhoods through the saturation of key City resources in affected neighborhoods for a concentrated period of time, approximately 4 months.  The intent behind concentrating these resources for the 4 month time period is to immediately affect the circumstances disturbing the affected areas while also leaving in place a framework within the neighborhood to continue to work to affect any undesirable aspects.

In order for the ORION Solution to achieve its goals, a work team will be created consisting of representatives from the affected neighborhoods, other community based institutions and City staff.  Each work team will meet frequently to identify any sources of concern in the neighborhoods and then aggressively work to target these issues with the extra resources the City has committed to the selected neighborhoods. These work teams will be disbanded at the conclusion of the four month process but not before the team has crafted its own action plan to help achieve long term success and sustainability.
