Earned Income Tax Credit

Give Your
Paycheck a
Boost, Claim the Earned Income Tax Credit

With tax-filing season upon us,
Dayton residents are reminded to take advantage of the “Earned Income Tax Credit” (EITC) as a way to save money on their federal tax returns.

Not everybody knows about this tax credit or takes full advantage of it, but they should.

Dayton City Commissioner Dean Lovelace is leading the effort to encourage eligible residents to take advantage of this under-used federal tax credit and boost their take-home pay.  Historically, lower-income residents, former welfare recipients and those with language barriers do not file to receive the EITC.

“The Earned Income Tax Credit is an excellent way for lower wage-earners to save money or get money back on their tax returns,” Commissioner Lovelace said.  “It is very important for Dayton residents to apply for this credit when they file their taxes this year, and there is free help available to prepare their tax forms.”

There is also the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and the Child and Dependent Care Credit that can help eligible families save more money when filing their taxes.
