Prevent Sewer Line Grease Blockage

Improper disposal of grease waste at restaurants, other commercial establishments and even homes can cause blockages in sanitary sewer lines, leading to time-consuming and costly fixes that the property owner would be responsible for. Grease waste should be disposed as solid waste (garbage) rather than in sinks or the sewer system. To prevent blockage problems, businesses should install and properly maintain grease traps or interceptors. For more information, contact the Department of Water Division of Sewer Maintenance at 333-4915. To see a video about preventing grease blockages, click here.
