Community Services - Fire Prevention, Inspection and Investigations
The Community Services group provide several elements in key Fire Prevention areas.
They work closely with businesses located within the City of Dayton to provide regular fire prevention inspections and fire alarm and suppression system testing. They work with contractors to assist in code compliance for fire alarm and suppression systems being installed in new and remodeled commercial and industrial buildings. They work in conjunction with Dayton Public Schools to conduct fire drills. Regular attendance at large public gatherings assure that those at the event will have adequate access to a means of egress and that the fire alarm and suppression systems are operable. In addition, they have Fire Safety Public Service Announcements on local radio and television stations and provide educational material to the public in general. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) provides many great resources at their Sparky The Fire Dog interactive website for children.
A select group of highly trained individuals provide Arson investigation services within the City as well. They are tasked to investigate the cause of any suspicious fires and follow through with prosecution of those found accountable for the crime.
