The City of Dayton is proud to offer CodeRED^® – a new emergency alert system that relays information to residents by telephone.  In an emergency situation, the high-speed messaging system can deliver customized emergency notifications and instructions at a rate of 60,000 calls per hour.

Residents whose phone number is listed in the white pages of the telephone directory are automatically included in the database to receive CodeRED^® messages.  However, business and residents with non-listed numbers must register if they wish to receive the CodeRED^® emergency notifications.  Residents should register if they:

• Want their cell phone called

• Want to provide a work phone as a back-up to their home phone

• Want to provide a caregiver back-up number

• Recently moved and kept their old phone number

• Have changed their phone number in the past six months

• Use a TDD/TTY

To register by telephone, call the Dayton Fire Department at 937-333-4505. Required information includes first and last name (or business name), street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers (optional).

It should be noted that this registration process is for addresses within the city of Dayton only.

How Does CodeRED Work?
CodeRED^® employs a one-of-a-kind Internet mapping capability for geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a high-speed telephone calling system capable of delivering customized, pre-recorded emergency messages directly to homes and businesses at the rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. CodeRED^® subscribers control their emergency broadcasts from anywhere in the world via a secure Internet Portal.

The CodeRED^® system is a geographical based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which telephone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation.  The system works fine for cellular phones too, but requires a street address.  People who have recently moved in the city but kept the same listed or unlisted number also need to change their addresses in the database.
