Dayton Film Permit (NEW!)
The Dayton Film Permit is designed to help make it easier to complete a film project in Dayton. The Film Permit provides an easy-to-use checklist and referral system for obtaining any additional permits you may need. The Film and Screen Team (FAST) team will expedite the permit process and provide information to assist with your project.
The City of Dayton does not charge a fee to obtain a Film Permit, although other customary charges may apply. See the Film Permit for more details.
The Dayton Film Permit is only required for professional film projects when the project is in the public rights-of-way, on or within any City-owned property, or when special assistance is needed from City staff, such as for street closures or pyrotechnics. The permit is recommended for filming that involves stunts, exotic animals, camera cars, aircraft, very large casts, or other unusual circumstances. It is also recommended when filming will occur on private property that might be disruptive to the community in any way, such as parking issues or excessive noise.
To obtain a Film Permit, the City of Dayton will require:
1) a certificate of insurance that names the City of Dayton as an additional insured;
2) proof of workers compensation coverage; and
3) a map of the area(s) proposed for filming.
Apply for a permit by email to Keith.Klein@daytonohio.gov or by fax to (937) 333-4266.
The permit should be submitted at least thirty (30) days in advance. Additional permits may be required by state or local law. Customary charges will apply for City services. The City's on-site assistance may include fire safety inspections, traffic control, or escorted entry onto public or City-owned property.
News organizations and individual citizens are not required to have a permit, unless special assistance is needed on-site during filming. Certain requirements may be waived for supervised student projects.
The City of Dayton shall be held harmless from any liability associated with a film permit. Any reference to the “City of Dayton” and/or use of official City of Dayton logos or any derivation thereof on film requires written approval.
