The City of Dayton encourages citizens to participate in their government and decision-making on community issues. One way to participate is to serve on a board or commission as an unpaid volunteer. Each board or commission has a specific area it focuses on; boards and commissions may make decisions based on specific guidelines, may make recommendations to the City Commission, or may conduct their own activities and events. The time commitment to serving on a board or commission varies from a few hours a week to a few hours a month.

Following is information about the boards and commissions appointed by the Dayton City Commission or the Dayton Mayor. Most appointments are made by the entire Dayton City Commission; specific boards are appointed solely by the Mayor. Some boards and commissions have specific requirements about a member’s residency, skills and training, or other characteristics.
