West Patrol Operations

Major Eric Henderson graduated from the Dayton Police Academy in 1999 and served in the West Patrol Operations Division as a patrol officer and field-training officer. In 2002, he was transferred to the Narcotics Bureau where he worked in various assignments.

In 2008, he was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to East Patrol Operations Division as a shift supervisor. In 2009, Major Henderson was reassigned to the Dayton Police Dispatch Center as a shift supervisor, 911 Coordinator, and served as a member of the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center transition team. Major Henderson was reassigned January 2011 to Homeland Security and served as the department’s liaison to the Regional Dispatch Center.

Major Henderson was promoted to Lieutenant in September 2011, and was assigned as the Strategic Planning Bureau Commander. In January 2015, he was assigned to West Patrol Operations Division as the Day Watch Commander. In February 2016, he began serving as the Acting Division Commander (Major). He was promoted to Major in August 2016, and was assigned as the Division Commander of the West Patrol Operations Division.

Major Henderson was the supervisor of the Dayton Police Regional Bomb Squad for six years and was a certified FBI-Hazardous Device Schools Bomb Technician.

Major Henderson is a lifelong resident of Dayton and grew up in the Fairview neighborhood. He graduated from Meadowdale High School and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Park University. Major Henderson is a graduate of The Ohio State University's Public Safety Leadership Academy. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, Police Executive Research Forum, and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
